Good wattage for one/four" acrylic ?
How-do-you-do Folks.
Start time affiche. Looking to aggrandize my small-scale business concern and volition be working with acrylic. No bigger and so one/iv". Wondering what a "adept" wattage laser would exist for this. I accept been speaking with the "big 3" and am looking at the sixty-80 watt range currently.I know there are dissimilar types of acrylic, is one ameliorate then the other for cutting and engraving with a laser?
Cheers, Stan

You can cutting ane/4" acrylic with 20 watts, sixty-lxxx can cut at least one/2" - single pass that is. Cast rasters nicer than extruded and extruded vectors nicer than cast, although yous can vector cast just fine. You didn't ask, simply any of the "big three" volition do only fine on something as simple as acrylic. Await for the one that volition support you the best when you need information technology. (hint: Trotec)

Thanks for the input. I would rather have also much laser and so non enough. I want to be able to abound into the laser, not out abound information technology and have to spend more coin to go the "right" tool.
I have been leaning towards Trotec, though the price I take been quoted is most $10K more then the comparable UL or Epilog. I would accept to hustle up a LOT of new work to comprehend the coast of any light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation I decide on. Still in that, "not certain what I should do" stage of things. I exercise know I NEED a good write off. Paid about ii/3 the toll of a skilful laser in taxes this final yr.

The 179 tax credit is law for 2016 so, assuming yous are a business concern, you tin fully deduct the cost of your new laser.
If I were buying a new machine this year, and I promise to be, it will be an 80 watt Trotec. Simply I can cut ane/iv" acrylic with my 45 watt motorcar.

Give thanks you for all the comments folks.
As for a Chinese laser....no thanks. I empathize the price point, but I truly believe in NOT supporting annihilation from
that state. Not to keep a bluster, but I go out of my way daily to not buy Chicon products...and yes...I do Not store at Walmart. Ever.Hullo Gary. Yes, I program on counter offering the quote I received from my Trotec rep...but only when I am truly set up to buy 1. If it works out information technology was pismire to exist. If non then I will go with some other company.
take care, Stan

Stan, I got an older ULS (fabricated in USA) that was refurbished by the dealer. He replaced all the moving parts, and motors, but I had to do the clean upward. fifty Watt auto tests out at over 60. You lot might be able to cutting 1/four inch acrylic with a xx watt machine, but he did non tell you lot how many passes and how long each cut took. Similar Ross above I say 50 - 60 watts, I cutting one/iv inch ane pass at a pretty decent speed, ( don't remember the settings) with 100% power.

Your correct....in this 24-hour interval and age it is nearly impossible to be "China costless". But I will not go out of my way to intentionally buy a Chinese fabricated product.
It amazes me that ANYONE who is in business for themselves does not understand the "Walmart mentality" and would support information technology.
Almost folks dear to get cheap "stuff" when they are buying. Only then look peak dollar when they are selling their product. But now everyone expects to go that good ol Walmart pricing. Get it?Volition my trivial stand up against the pass up of our once great industrial state make any kind of departure? Nope, but I do have my values and am one-time fashion and accept fought for this state, and so I feel I take earned the right to my signal of view and refuse to be PC.
